Mr. T Joined the company: April 2011 Job: Sales Location: Singapore

1. Reasons for choosing Dai Nippon Shoji

Having studied abroad as a student, I wanted to use the language skills and experience I gained there to work for a company that did business overseas. I learned about Dai Nippon Shoji through my job search, and at a company information session, I learned that the company was planning to strengthen its procurement from and sales to overseas markets. I thought I might be able to make use of my skills, so I applied.

2. Current job details

A photo of Mr. T having a meeting in the conference room

I regularly visit overseas suppliers, mainly in Southeast Asia, to negotiate prices and delivery times, exchange opinions on quality improvement, and when I obtain information on new products, I share that information with our domestic bases in Japan and explore the possibility of connecting it to new business opportunities.
We also work with partner companies in Southeast Asia to export products to customers in the region.

3. The happiest episode

When we undertook efforts to develop new markets, we analyzed the strengths of the products and services we handle, thoroughly researched information on target customers, competitors, and the business practices of the country, and then expanded sales, which resulted in orders. It goes without saying that this success was the result of the cooperation of those around me, and there were many complex factors involved, such as timing, but being able to create a project from scratch was one of my most satisfying experiences, and it still gives me confidence.

4. Your biggest failure and what you learned from it

I think my biggest mistake was that there was a time when I was afraid of failure and couldn't take on new challenges. Having built up a career and gained a variety of experiences, I became afraid of failure and would compare new projects with my past experience and conclude in my own mind that "this won't work," which made me hesitate to take on new challenges.
Thinking is very important, but I realized that "overthinking" made me more conservative than necessary and missed opportunities to gain new experiences and grow, so now I try many different things and come to see failure as experience. With the recent development of AI technology and search tools, I feel that in the future, a variety of experiences, including successes and failures, will be more important than knowledge that can be found by research, so I would like to continue taking on challenges and become a person with a lot of experience.

5. Future career plans

I am currently in the midst of this valuable opportunity and experience of being stationed overseas, and I would like to first fulfill the duties that I have been entrusted with. I also believe that work-life balance is important in improving my work performance, so I would like to live a fulfilling life both at work and at home, while also cherishing time with my family.

1. Reasons for choosing Dai Nippon Shoji

I wanted to visit new customers and build new business. Throughout my job search, I had two other reasons for deciding to join the company.
First, I was attracted by the DNP Group's worldwide network and the environment in which it is possible to develop business from a global perspective.
The second reason was that there were many questions about self-promotion during the interview. I felt that the company culture, which respects my strengths and personality and values diversity, was a good fit for me, and this was the deciding factor for me to join the company.

2. Current job details

Mr. S peering into the computer screen

I have been working in sales for four years since joining the company as a new graduate, mainly selling films used in food packaging. By deepening relationships with existing customers, understanding their needs and requests, and proposing new products, I have increased customer satisfaction and built relationships of trust.
We are also actively working to develop new sales destinations, and through market research, we identify potential sales destinations, attempt to approach them, and aim to win contracts through new proposals.

3. The happiest episode

I was able to propose new products and win orders. I was able to uncover their needs through dialogue with existing clients, which helped me to deepen my relationship of trust with them. It was a very satisfying success for me, as I felt that my proposals and services were contributing to my clients' business.
The moments when I feel that I am contributing to the company by creating new business give me energy for my daily work.

Mr. S's business meeting

4. Your biggest failure and what you learned from it

A lack of communication led to insufficient information sharing, which meant that our services were not delivered in time for the customer's delivery deadline. Supporting customers is an important element of a trading company's sales activities. However, we were unable to respond appropriately or provide prompt support to the customer's problems and requests. As a trading company salesperson, where building trusting relationships with customers is important, we experienced a failure that led to a loss of trust.
Since this experience, I have come to value communication with my clients more, and am trying to increase daily dialogue not only through business negotiations but also through online conferences and other means.

5. Future career plans

As a salesperson at a trading company, I study a variety of products to deepen my knowledge of the main products we handle and also increase my knowledge of new products.
The needs of our clients are not limited to product-related concerns, but also cover a wide range of issues such as labor shortages and reducing manufacturing costs. I would like to become a person who can be seen as a partner that clients can consult with about anything.

1. Reasons for choosing Dai Nippon Shoji

I was interested in materials, and wanted to be able to meet the needs of others and make proposals that added value that only I could offer, so I wanted to work for a specialized trading company.
During this time, I came across Dainippon Shoji and was attracted by the fact that there were many things that could be done as a trading company in the DNP Group, such as "products with added value that are unique to DNP, and in a wide range of fields," so I decided to join the company.

2. Current job details

We primarily sell cover tape (film used as a covering material when transporting electronic components) manufactured by DNP to domestic and overseas manufacturers.
In addition, we proactively make proposals to meet requests other than cover tape received from customers in our daily conversations, taking advantage of our strengths as a trading company that can handle a wide range of products.

3. The happiest episode

Mr. K is having a business meeting in the reception room

It may sound cliché, but it's when a customer expresses their gratitude by saying, "Thank you, that was a great help."
I act because I want to help my clients and suppliers in some way, and I also try to do things that will benefit someone, even if it's not something they necessarily have to do, so I feel very happy when I hear directly from them and realize that I've been able to help them.
Furthermore, through these experiences, I have had more opportunities to receive individual contact and inquiries from customers. Although it is only my second year and I still have a lot to learn, I feel that I am gradually gaining trust as a salesperson.
It is difficult to achieve good results for everyone, but we will continue to value dialogue and consideration between our customers and suppliers, and strive to work together in a way that is fruitful.

4. Your biggest failure and what you learned from it

We were unable to act effectively as the liaison between the sales destination and the supplier for a customer request, which caused confusion on all sides in terms of delivery dates.
I realized that there was no point in me being there if I was just passing the information on to the wrong people, and that there were more people than I had imagined who would be affected by my own lack of consideration or words or actions.
This incident prompted us to create a table to manage delivery dates and progress, and we are now working to not only prevent the same mistakes, but also to clearly distinguish between multiple similar projects and respond appropriately.

5. Future career plans

My current goal is to become a salesperson who can address customer needs.
To achieve this, we believe it is necessary to have a multifaceted perspective, act with an eye to the future, and deepen our product knowledge.
Furthermore, we will continue to work with our customers and suppliers to expand our business, while maintaining our original intentions and gratitude to those around us.

1. Reasons for choosing Dai Nippon Shoji

When I was looking for a job, I wanted to work with a variety of products and people, and I thought that Dainippon Shoji, the trading division of the DNP Group, would give me the opportunity to work with a variety of industries and products, allowing me to acquire a wide range of knowledge.
I also found it attractive that this is a workplace where I can build relationships with a wide range of business partners by utilizing the diverse global network of the DNP Group.

2. Current job details

We are involved in the import of various raw materials and products from overseas suppliers.
In addition to knowledge of products, I am also acquiring know-how regarding trade transactions and keeping an eye on the current international situation while working. I feel a great sense of responsibility and significance in my work, as it serves as a liaison for building good relationships with overseas suppliers and expanding the business.

3. The happiest episode

Mr. S is having a meeting with a colleague while looking at sample products.

My sincere dedication to even small jobs has earned me recognition both within and outside the company, and one of our suppliers told me, "We'd like to take the initiative to help with securing trucks and warehouse work." This made me realize once again that the "careful work" I've been consciously working on has a positive impact on those around me and helps build trust.
It also gave me a great sense of confidence that I was doing the right thing.

4. Your biggest failure and what you learned from it

During a transaction with an overseas supplier, there was a misunderstanding that resulted in a shortage of product. The supplier quickly responded by producing more, and at the same time, the customer adjusted the delivery date, and the situation was resolved without incident, but it caused a great deal of inconvenience to both parties. We had not taken into consideration that common sense in Japan differs from that of the other party, and the misunderstanding arose from a misconception. Since then, I have made it a point to choose words that are easy for the other party to understand, and to confirm that we are on the same page at key points in our interactions as we work.

5. Future career plans

I would like to actively attend corporate seminars and exhibitions to deepen my knowledge of the industry and products I am involved in, understand trends in overseas business and changes in the market, and become a person who can propose new business opportunities both inside and outside the company.
I also plan to take advantage of the company's training system to improve my language skills so that I can communicate smoothly with our overseas suppliers.

Mr. T Joined the company: April 2011 Job type: Sales Work location: Kansai office

Mr. T with his arms crossed in the office

1. Reasons for choosing Dai Nippon Shoji

Originally, I was interested in the printed materials and packaging that are all around me, and wanted to work for a printing company that plans, manufactures, and sells products, but as I continued my job search, I began to feel that working for a trading company would also be rewarding.I eventually came across Dai Nippon Shoji, where I could be involved in both printed materials and trading, and decided to join the company.

2. Current job details

Mr. T leaves the office while making a phone call.

I work selling plastic film used in packaging (for sweets and daily necessities) to printing and processing companies.
We handle not only domestic products but also overseas products, so I feel that we are a global company. In fact, products that I have worked on are sometimes on the shelves of convenience stores and supermarkets.

3. The happiest episode

When I first joined the company, I was busy doing the work I had inherited from my senior colleagues, but one day I had an idea: "This product has great features, so maybe we could sell it to other companies." When I consulted a senior colleague, he said, "Why don't you give it a try?" I actually made a proposal, which led to an order. I was happy to have the experience of thinking, acting, and seeing results on my own, and I still use that experience in my current sales activities.

4. Your biggest failure and what you learned from it

Shortly after joining the company, we had a product that was being discontinued, but I failed to consider the impact that would come with it and neglected to notify our customers, which resulted in causing trouble for those around me. My superiors helped me out and I was able to get the situation under control, but I remember feeling very remorseful and thinking, "I should have said something from the beginning." Since that incident, I have made it a point to work in cooperation with those around me, rather than acting on my own judgment.

5. Future career plans

As the environment changes rapidly, our customers face a variety of problems every day. I will broaden my horizons and work to propose a variety of products to our customers, in addition to the plastic film I am currently in charge of. I will not be satisfied with the status quo, but will continue to accumulate knowledge and experience, and aim to become a member of society who grows every day.
