Environmental Initiatives

In all our business activities, we are committed to preserving the global environment and making effective use of resources.

Adopting the Green Power Certificate System

As part of our CO₂ reduction activities, we have adopted the Green Power Certificate System provided by Japan Natural Energy Co., Ltd. We procure "green power" generated from natural energy sources.
Under the Green Power Certificate System, the environmental added value of electricity generated from natural energy sources such as solar, biomass, wind, and hydropower is traded in the form of Green Power Certificates. By obtaining these certificates, we contribute to the wider adoption of natural energy.
In addition to the eco-business activities we have carried out to date, we will strive to further reduce our environmental impact.

CoC Certification and Registration—FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) and PEFC

We have obtained two CoC certifications, FSC® and PEFC, which are international forest certification systems. FSC®/CoC certification is administered by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®), an international non-profit organization (NPO). PEFC/CoC certification is administered by the PEFC Forest Certification Program, an international non-profit non-governmental organization (NGO).
FSC® certification is an international forest certification system established in 1994 in response to global forest issues such as deforestation and growing public environmental awareness. Established through consensus among various stakeholders around the world, the system includes FM certification, which assesses and certifies forest management based on 10 principles and 70 criteria that balance environmental, social, and economic considerations, and CoC certification, which covers the processing and distribution process of forest products, and strict assessments are conducted by independent third-party organizations. Choosing FSC®-labeled products allows you to help protect forests without making extra effort in your daily life. It is a new environmental conservation initiative, following the use of recycled paper and non-wood paper.

Environmental Conservation through the Production and Sale of Reed Paper

A photo of the lakeside where reeds, the raw material for reed paper, grow

Reeds, which grow in colonies near waterside areas, play an important role in purifying water by absorbing phosphorus and nitrogen. However, because reeds die within a year, the absorbed nutrients can flow back into rivers and streams if left unattended, potentially causing water pollution.

To address this issue, we are participating in and promoting an initiative to harvest reeds before they die and use them effectively as raw material for reed paper. This initiative prevents harmful substances from re-leaching, contributing to the conservation of the water environment and the maintenance of a healthy ecosystem in reed fields. Furthermore, by expanding the use of non-wood paper, we are also contributing to the protection of forest resources.
