A future-ready PET bottle delivering high barrier performance and premium bottle design

High-Barrier PET Bottle with Premium Design | Functional Film Complex PET Bottle

The functional film complex PET bottle is a next-generation PET container that merges exceptional high barrier performance with sophisticated bottle design by integrally molding a PET preform and a high-performance functional film. Developed as a lightweight, glass-alternative solution for today’s booming e-commerce market, it cuts shipping costs and virtually eliminates breakage in transit. Fully compliant with Japan’s Container and Packaging Recycling Law, it can be recycled through standard PET streams for an eco-friendly lifecycle.

In 1994, DNP launched Japan’s first aseptic PET-bottle filling system, establishing our leadership in PET-bottle technology. Since 2013, we have been conducting dedicated R&D on functional film complex PET bottle technology, and provide total support from original bottle shape design to packaging materials and filling.

What is "functional film complex PET bottle" ?

Future-ready PET bottle that fuses high barrier performance with premium bottle design

DNP’s functional film complex PET bottle is a functional-film composite container that over-molds a high-barrier film onto the PET preform. This construction delivers a high barrier to oxygen, water vapor and light while unlocking new possibilities in bottle design: micro-emboss patterns built into the blow-mold reproduce delicate textures and bold 3-D reliefs that elevate brand appeal.

After use, the outer film can be peeled away, allowing the transparent PET body to enter standard recycling streams in full compliance with Japan’s Container and Packaging Recycling Law. Because the bottle is lightweight and shatter-resistant, it cuts freight costs, prevents breakage and makes everyday handling easier than glass.

As a lightweight alternative to glass, the functional film complex PET bottle is now used for alcoholic beverages such as sake, as well as for sauces, cosmetics and toiletries. Its unique combination of high-barrier protection and bottle design freedom has led to wide adoption both in Japan and overseas—and has earned multiple industry awards.

Key features & functions

1.High-barrier protection

While conventional desiccants provide localized moisture absorption, this film efficiently absorbs moisture over its entire surface thanks to the moisture-absorbing layer.

2.Advanced bottle design freedom

A collage showcasing diverse bottle design possibilities, including complex sculptural shapes, unique textures, and a variety of colors and finishes.

Enabling delicate textures and razor-sharp edges that ordinary plastic bottles cannot reproduce—without sacrificing the high-barrier performance that sets this bottle design apart.

・Aesthetic surface detailing
- Holographic highlights
- Deep-frost finishes
- Etched-glass matte textures
- Multi-faceted surfaces and complex micro-patterns

・Sculptural bottle shaping
- Full-body forms tailored to each product and brand, including bold, multi-angled geometries

・Extensive customization
- Full-bottle coloring through film selection
- High-definition printing plus a palette of seven-plus standard colors—and unlimited bespoke options—to unlock virtually any look required

3.Easy-to-recycle construction

The outer film is bonded without adhesive; after it is used it peels away cleanly, letting the clear PET body enter standard recycling streams with minimal sorting.

4. Lightweight & shatter-safe

Lightweight, shatter-resistant functional film complex PET Bottle design reduces shipping costs and enhances handling safety with high-barrier performance.

Engineered as a true glass replacement, this bottle is dramatically lighter and far less prone to breakage—reducing freight costs and minimizing damage risk in both logistics and everyday handling.
