DNP to Launch Sales of Organic EL Display-Driven Digital Signage
Installs large-scale curving screen at a Tokyo showroom first in Japan

Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) is pleased to announce the October, 2016 launch of organic electroluminescence (EL) display-driven digital signage for business uses. The large scale organic EL displays can be used to configure curved surfaces, and the new product also renders clear image expressions that maintain a high contrast.
In conjunction with LG Electronics Japan Inc. (LG Electronics) DNP has installed a large scale curved digital signage device, comprising 24 separate 55 inch EL displays aligned in a 6 X 4 pattern, at a DNP showroom, situated in the Gotanda area of Tokyo. Looking ahead, DNP will not only provide large scale organic EL display-driven digital signage, but will also offer a total service. This includes the production of high definition image contents capable of operating with resolutions of 4K and higher used in the images broadcast in the showroom, along with the provision of image distribution systems.

[Background]
Digital signage can be installed in a variety of locations, including outdoors, at retail outlets, public spaces and transport facilities. It comes as no surprise that the signage is enjoying rapid penetration as communication media linking companies and local communities with the objective of supporting corporate branding messages, sales promotions and ads, along with spatial presentations, as well as in the provision of relevant information during disasters and emergencies. As digital signage-related businesses, DNP offers a total support service from consulting, through the provision, construction and installation of equipment, to contents production, distribution, operation and maintenance. In this latest development, DNP has capitalized on the established strengthsin organic EL displays of LG Electronics to launch sales of large scale curveddigital signage. This development works to help expand services from both companiesas well as making it possible to achieve even richer communication opportunities.
A large scale curved digital signage device has been installed at the DNP showroom, and uses DNP’s photography and editing technologies to broadcast newly edited high definition image contents, providing visitors with realistic sensation and immersive feeling (Please note that access to the large scale curved digital signage is limited due to its location at a business meeting space).

1, Curved organic EL-Driven large scale screen first of its kind in Japan
Employing LG Electronics' 55 inch curved large scale organic EL display has made it possible to achieve design features not previously possible, as well as creating an eye catching effect. At the same time, digital signage viewers can also enjoy improved realistic and immersive effects. The 55 inch curved display installed at the DNP showroom combines 24 separate screens to produce a large scale digital signage that is the first of its kind in Japan.
2, Organic EL helps produce high contrast and black expressions
The self-luminous organic EL display helps display a deeper black than has been possible with other display formats, and facilitates high contrast image expressions.
3, Provision of original contents helping to create richer spatial presentations on the curved shape of a display
The large scale digital signage installed at the DNP showroom broadcasts the following contents:
i) Special 4k images1 from the Kyoto Cultural Heritage Archive Project, along with re-edited 8K images.
ii) Ultra-high resolution images produced from 3D archive data of the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF) collection of terrestrial andcelestial globes2.
In addition to the content owned by DNP, we also produce original videos in response to customer requests.
1: Ultra-high resolution archive images recorded on 4K video with the special permission from the 17 shrines, temples and castles that comprise the Cultural Heritage of the Ancient Capital of Kyoto, along with national treasures and important cultural properties, via a partnership between DNP, Mainichi Broadcasting System, Inc. and TOMORROW'S KYOTO Cultural Heritage Platform.
2: A collection of 55 particularly valuable terrestrial and celestial globes from the BnF chart collection, which then underwent 3D digitization, applying a photographic technique uniquely developed by DNP. Visitors can expand, contractor revolve each image in a smooth manner to view the more detailed points of the exhibits that may have been missed when viewing the originals with the naked eye, allowing visitors a high resolution viewing experience.

[Looking Ahead]
By approximately October 2016, DNP will put the newly developed digital signage on a commercial footage, and commence marketing activities in the Japanese market. These include targeting large scale commercial facilities and showrooms, public transport, office buildings and the foyers to condominiums.
At the same time, the Company aims to capitalize on such organic EL display features as the low profile, light weight, high image quality and curvature capabilities, to offer a total service. Beginning with the introduction and operation of digital signage unrestricted by either location or design, allowing for the introduction of digital signage in places that have not been possible with LCD, through usage proposals, space design, construction and installation, system design, contents production, delivery and operation to effect measurement. In addition, DNP will also produce and market high resolution, high quality image contents suitable for use with organic EL displays. The Company aims for sales from this product, contents and related services of 2.0 billion yen by FY 2019.
