DNP Starts Manufacturing of ISCC PLUS-Certified Sterile Packaging at Izumizaki Plant

Contributes to the circular economy and bioeconomy through a certified mass balance approach, from raw materials to DNP’s final manufacturing process

March 19, 2026

Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) has obtained ISCC PLUS certification from International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) at the Izumizaki Plant, which is our group company DNP Technopack Co., Ltd., in Fukushima Prefecture.

The Izumizaki Plant is our second plant certified to manufacture sterile packaging. The Kyotanabe Plant, also our group company DNP Technopack Co., Ltd., in Kyoto Prefecture was granted certification for the manufacture of ISCC PLUS–certified packaging in 2023.

DNP has begun offering sterile packaging manufactured using ISCC PLUS–certified materials through collaboration with Delaware-based DuPont de Nemours, Inc. (DuPont), a leading global company providing materials science-driven sustainable solutions. These packaging materials are based on Tyvek® with Renewable Attribution, produced using a third-party-certified mass balance approach (MBA) that attributes the use of renewable feedstocks.

The products are scheduled for adoption as sterile packaging in single-use endotherapeutic devices manufactured by Olympus.

DNP’s Business Development Leveraging ISCC PLUS Certification

The ISCC PLUS standard, in particular, supports the transition to a circular economy and bioeconomy. This voluntary certification standard validates the sustainability characteristics of alternative feedstocks throughout the entire supply chain, from origin to end consumer. Mass balance is a chain of custody option in which certified and non-certified materials are physically mixed throughout the value chain but kept separate through verifiable bookkeeping.

By adopting ISCC PLUS–certified Tyvek® with Renewable Attribution in sterile packaging, it becomes possible to support the use of certified resources throughout the value chain. This system promotes the efficient use of renewable resources and supports the broader application of certified materials within the value chain.

Certification process

DNP will promote the realization of carbon neutrality and a circular economy by expanding the provision of certified products to companies Going forward, we will continue to contribute to advancing resource efficiency through certified raw material procurement and the expanded use of biomass-based and recycled materials.

We will exhibit this product at the DNP booth during Medtec Japan, a trade show for the design and manufacture of medical device held at Tokyo Big Sight from April 21 to 23, 2026.
