Tokyo, July24, 2023, Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) and Raptors Inc., the operator of GASHO2.0, are pleased to announce a joint display at Asia’s leading Web3 Conference, WebX. The companies have the opportunity to showcase a prototype Certificate of Authenticity and Proof of Ownership system that combine Near Field Communication (NFC) and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT). 

WebX is hosted by CoinPost, a cryptocurrency and Web3 media company, and will be held on July 25th and 26th, 2023 at the Tokyo International Forum. It is a global conference that brings together major domestic and international players, including startups, investors, government officials and the media.

Background

Amid increasing global attention on digital artworks such as NFT, there is a growing need to be able to output such artworks that exist only in digital space to the physical world. DNP maintains strengths in printing technology cultivated over many years, along with color management technology capable of faithfully reproducing various color shades and a variety of expression techniques that enrich the world view embodied in the artwork. GASHO 2.0 applies relief painting technology and boasts an output technology that makes it possible to produce 3D expressions by overlaying multiple layers on an aluminum plate.

Combining the strengths of the partners, we will use the delicate and colorful works of the popular illustrator Fuzichoco as motifs to showcase Japan's power of expression and technology to the world.

Fuzichoco is an illustrator and manga artist. She works in a wide range of genres, including illustrations for novels targeting young adults and known as Light Novels, trading card games, and on-line games. She has also created many original illustrations. Her colors maintain a vivid and bright transparency, with a structure that suggests a sense of depth. Backgrounds filled out with carefully inserted text work help bring out her world view.

DNP Proof of Ownership System

In recent years, the spread of sophisticated counterfeit goods has increased, centering on brand-name products and high-value-added products. In response to this situation, DNP is working to develop security and authentication technologies with the aim of realizing a society in which everyone can live safely and securely. We have been leveraging our DNP NFC tag authentication platform1, provided since March 2022, to certify the authenticity of products by linking them with Blockchain technology. We are also developing system capable of providing digital certification to NFT owners. By applying this system, we aim to empower consumers by making it possible to instantly determine authenticity using a smartphone.

Going Forward

DNP operates an XR communication2 business that offers new experiential value by fusing real and virtual spaces. As part of this business, we collaborate with intellectual property (IP) holders, such as those involved in anime, manga, and game worlds. We are making efforts to create global-level solutions that realistically output digital works through printing technology, and develop services that can be enjoyed by content fans around the world in both real and virtual environments. At the same time, by combining secure authentication technology and Blockchain, we will also work towards the development of solutions that anticipate the future use of innovations in Proof of Product Provenance, including the Digital Product Passport (DPP), which is on the rise in Europe. 

GASHO2.0 will continue to develop activities that maximize the appeal of digital art by fully leveraging diverse technologies. It is planned to further expand the creator community while collaborating with various creators and promoting the use of GASHO2.0 in multiple projects. Starting with a solo exhibition in Singapore in September 2023, it is planned to expand into exhibitions and events around the world, along with the field of contemporary art.
