DNP Launches Service that Monitors Operating Status of Surveillance Cameras and Notifies Occurrence of Failure

Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) will, from October, 2016, launch a servicethat monitors the operation of internet-connected surveillance cameras, andnotifies administrators via e-mail in cases of communication errors and hardwarefailures.
[Background]
In instances of faults with surveillance cameras that are connected to, andmanaged via the internet, an error message is displayed on the monitoring terminal,such as a personal computer. Challenges exist, however, such as video data notbeing preserved, making it impossible to confirm operational history. This canoccur in cases where maintenance tasks are delayed and error conditions prolongedif monitoring is not constantly carried out, or where monitoring staff do notnotice the error right away.
In response to these challenges, DNP in cooperation with UNIADEX, Ltd, willcommence a service that monitors the operating status of surveillance cameras,and which, by sending an e-mail to the administrator when faults arise, supportsthe stable operation of such system.

When faults are detected in internet-connected surveillance cameras, a messageis sent from the UNIADEX server that monitors operational status, to the DNPmonitoring center, and an e-mail noting the occurrence of a fault is then deliveredto the system administrator. At the same time, a similar message is sent tothe point of contact for the maintenance department, and maintenance responses,such as repairs, commence. By introducing this service, defect occurrences canbe discovered in a timely manner, and responses put into effect in a rapid fashion,making it possible to minimize the loss of stored data.
