Background

Looking to a future that includes the spread of autonomous driving, vehicle interiors are expected to transform into comfortable living spaces. Growing interest in in-vehicle environments, such as living rooms or home theaters that go beyond transportation, is driving demand for a fusion between comfortable spatial design and automotive functionality.

Based on these evolving consumer and automaker needs, DNP developed its decorative film for automotive displays in 2019 by combining decorative film technologies cultivated in housing and automotive interiors with optical technologies developed in the display field. DNP is initially commencing mass production of this product for the Chinese market.

Key Features

1.Facilitates clear and vivid display of images and text

The decorative film for automotive displays incorporates microfabrication technology developed over many years to form a light-transmitting layer. The film enables light from the display to pass through without interference from decorative patterns, ensuring sharp and vivid rendering of images and text.

By optimizing the decorative design layer and the optical functional layer, it is now possible to enhance visibility across a variety of lighting environments, including both interior and external lighting conditions.

2.Unified interior design through integration with existing decorative films

DNP offers a wide range of decorative films for automotive interiors. By combining these with the new decorative film for automotive displays, automakers can achieve a unified design across not only the display area but the entire automobile interior, contributing to a more comfortable and visually appealing interior environment.

3.High scratch and stain resistance that meets required automotive quality standards

By protecting the panel surface with a topcoat layer formed using EB coating technology *2, which DNP has cultivated over many years in the manufacture of residential building materials, we have achieved scratch resistance and stain resistance that meet the quality requirements of automobile manufacturers.

Going Forward

In addition to automotive interior applications, DNP plans to expand the new decorative film for automotive displays to exterior components requiring light transmission, as well as to non-automotive fields where future growth is expected. DNP aims to achieve cumulative sales of ¥5 billion by FY 2030.

*2 Electron Beam (EB) Coating Technology: A technology that uses electron beam irradiation to harden applied resins. Compared to urethane or UV resin coatings, EB coatings offer superior resistance to scratches, contaminants, and sunlight, ensuring high durability, practical performance, and stable quality. The environmentally friendly technology also enables energy savings, reduced CO₂ emissions, and solvent-free coating.
