DNP and KODANSHA to Establish Publishing JV in Delhi, India
Bringing KODANSHA manga to Indian fans through greater accessibility, local production, and affordable pricing

Tokyo, June 15 , 2026 — Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) together with KODANSHA Ltd. and IJ Kakehashi Services Pvt. Ltd. will set up Kodansha India Private Limited (Kodansha India), a joint venture publishing company based in Delhi, India, in July 2026.
Kodansha India will carry out marketing of KODANSHA manga and other content in India, as well as producing and publishing local editions tailored to the Indian market. This marks the first time a Japanese leading general publisher has set up its local subsidiary in India to publish physical books and manga1.
The new company will start operations in autumn 2026. DNP will handle production management of books published by the company.
Background
Driven by population growth and continued economic expansion, India has seen a rapid increase in fans of Japanese manga and entertainment content, particularly among younger generations. While demand for physical books remains strong, the distribution volume of Japanese manga in the Indian market has been limited, making it difficult to meet growing local demand. Kodansha India will locally carry out marketing, production and publication Indian editions of popular KODANSHA titles such as ‘Attack on Titan’ and ‘Blue Lock’.
Through these publishing and content businesses, the new company aims to resopnd to the needs of Indian manga fans for a broader title selection and more affordable pricing, while also expanding the market for Japanese entertainment content.
