Issues and Needs Focused On: Semiconductors, whose importance is increasing due to advancements in AI and digital technologies.

Since its inception, semiconductors have supported our lives and society as an indispensable foundational technology in various fields. And with the rapid evolution of technology, particularly in the IT sector, the need for and importance of semiconductors are growing ever greater.

As AI and digital technologies permeate every corner of society, there is a growing need for a society where people respect each other and diverse values coexist. DNP develops and provides high-quality products that support the cutting edge semiconductor manufacturing that forms the foundation of this society, thereby supporting the evolution of various industries and technologies.

P&I – The strength of "manufacturing" created and developed through printing – "Photomasks for semiconductor manufacturing" that support the evolution of society with cutting-edge technology.

Based on its strengths in microfabrication and precision coating technologies cultivated through printing, DNP globally provides world-class products that support semiconductor manufacturing. In particular, it has achieved a top-level market share in photomasks, a core product in its Semiconductors business.

A photomask is a master plate used to transfer circuits onto a semiconductor wafer (a disc-shaped substrate). It has a precise circuit pattern formed on the surface of glass and is an essential component for semiconductor manufacturing. DNP has established high-precision microfabrication technologies, such as etching, which involves applying fine processing to metal, based on its technology for making typefaces and printing plates. Building on this experience, DNP succeeded in commercializing shadow masks for color televisions in 1958. Combining and developing this metal etching technology with photogravure technology, DNP began manufacturing photomasks in 1959. Since then, it has led the market in collaboration with domestic and international manufacturers since the dawn of semiconductor manufacturing.

TAIWA (dialogue) and cooperation–TAIWA (dialogue) and cooperation between All DNP and Diverse Partners – Collaboration with Partners Towards Commercialization in Cutting-Edge Fields

DNP's semiconductor business, including photomasks, has continued to grow by enhancing its competitiveness through continuous technological development, based on strong partnerships and trusting relationships with semiconductor manufacturers, equipment manufacturers, materials manufacturers, and research institutions. Technological development through TAIWA (dialogue) and cooperation with partners is progressing in various forms.

One example is nanoimprint lithography (NIL). This is an advanced technology for forming fine circuit patterns, applying DNP's microfabrication technology to press a circuit pattern onto a substrate, such as a stamp, using resin. This can reduce power consumption in the exposure process (transferring circuits onto semiconductor wafers) to about 1/10 of conventional methods, contributing to energy saving and carbon neutrality in semiconductor manufacturing.

Furthermore, the development of photomasks compatible with EUV (Extreme Ultra-Violet) lithography, which is attracting attention as a next-generation semiconductor manufacturing technology, is progressing through partnerships with research institutions and equipment manufacturers. EUV lithography is a cutting-edge technology for exposing extremely fine circuits and is expected to become the mainstream method for supplying higher-performance semiconductors in the future. DNP will continue to miniaturize photomasks to meet this new need.

Furthermore, with an eye on entering the back-end processes of semiconductor manufacturing, we will invest in Shinko Electric Industries in 2025 and promote the development of glass cores, which are materials for semiconductor packaging. By creating various synergies, we will develop an all-encompassing strategy that broadly meets diverse needs and provide high-quality, high-precision products both domestically and internationally.

Towards a society where people can connect and thrive through the evolution of social technology.

DNP is committed to advancing Semiconductors technologies and products, contributing to energy conservation in the production process and reducing the power consumption of semiconductors themselves, thereby contributing to a reduction in environmental impact. Furthermore, by supporting the high performance of semiconductors incorporated into all products in modern society, we will continue our efforts to make people's lives and communication safer, more secure, and richer.
Furthermore, semiconductors are a fundamental technology that forms the basis of a society where everyone has equal access to the information they need. DNP supports the manufacturing of high-performance semiconductors with reliable quality and stable production technology, aiming to realize a society without information disparities.

A society where communication barriers are removed through technologies such as automatic translation, speech recognition, and emotion understanding, leading to greater understanding and empathy between people. A society where safe and secure infrastructure is built and functions sustainably in fields such as AI, automobiles, healthcare, and data centers.
We will support this ideal vision of the world through advancements in AI and digital technologies, contributing to the creation of an environment where everyone, regardless of age, gender, nationality, disability, or other factors, can easily access information and thrive in their own unique way.

Going forward, we will anticipate needs in the display field, further refine our technology to ensure the supply of high-quality and stable products, and apply the technologies we have cultivated in optical films and metal masks to fields other than displays, aiming to expand into new growth areas.

The technological environment surrounding semiconductors is constantly evolving at a dizzying pace. DNP is committed to facing these rapid changes, enhancing its flexibility to respond quickly to technological innovations and market trends, and creating value, including by challenging itself in new areas.

We will continue creating new value to help realize a more sustainable society and richer, more fulfilling lives.
