Dai Nippon Printing launches prescription sending and medication follow-up service on LINE flyer

Helping dispensing pharmacies eliminate patient waiting times for medication and become a family pharmacy

October 28, 2021

Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) has partnered with LINE Corporation since 2019 to provide "LINE Flyer Media Format," a digital flyer service that delivers personalized product information for nearby stores to each user within the LINE messaging app operated by LINE Corporation. Now, in cooperation with Good Cycle System Co., Ltd., which develops and provides various systems for insurance pharmacies, DNP has partnered with "LINE Flyer" to develop a "Prescription Sending Function" service that will enable users to send a photo of their prescription with their smartphone to a dispensing pharmacy or drugstore, etc., and then collect their prescribed medication at the store with minimal waiting time. The service will be available from October 28th.

[Background]

In 2015, the government announced its "Vision for Pharmacies for Patients," and with the aim of centralizing medication information, it is promoting the spread of "family pharmacies" that patients can easily visit, rather than pharmacies near each medical institution. It also plans to fully implement electronic prescriptions from January 2023. Meanwhile, as part of infection prevention measures during the COVID-19 pandemic, online medication instructions have been available as a temporary and exceptional measure since April 2020. These developments have led to a growing demand from patients to receive their prescribed medications without having to wait long periods at pharmacies or drugstores.

In light of this, DNP has developed a prescription sending function for LINE Chirashi, which has approximately 16 million users as of October 2021. This will allow users to easily digitize prescriptions using LINE, without having to download or register as a member of another app, and to smoothly receive their medication at the store.

[How to use the "Prescription Sending Function" and its features]

Users can link to the "Prescription Sending Function" from the "LINE Flyer" store page, take a photo of the prescription, and send it. The pharmacy or drugstore will automatically print the accepted prescription, allowing the medication to be prepared before the user arrives. Users can also receive messages from the pharmacy or drugstore's official LINE account informing them that their prescription has been accepted and that the medication is ready.

1. Easy to use by utilizing "LINE flyers"

Prescriptions can be sent using "LINE Flyers," which is available on the popular "LINE" app. There is no need to download any other apps or register as a member, and payments can be made by credit card. Prescription history can also be kept electronically, which can be used to follow up on medication.

2. Reduce waiting times to receive prescribed medication

Users can activate the "Prescription Sending Function" from the store page of a dispensing pharmacy or drugstore on "LINE Flyer," and then take a photo of the prescription, send it, set a pickup date and time, check messages, etc. By being able to specify a pickup date and time, users can receive their medication smoothly without having to wait long at the store.

3. Stores can also promote their products through "LINE flyers."

Pharmacies and drug stores that use the prescription sending function can also use "LINE Flyers" to advertise their stores and products. By providing information to "LINE Flyer" users in the vicinity of their stores, they can build lasting relationships as a local "family pharmacy."

[Introductory price (tax included)]

The basic fee for the prescription sending function is 1,100 yen per store per month (there are no pay-per-use charges).

  • This function is provided exclusively by DNP to companies that have adopted LINE flyers.
  • The fee for "LINE Flyer" is not related to the above introductory price (tax included) and will incur additional costs.
  • Regarding the use of this function, some functions will be subject to a contract with Good Cycle System Co., Ltd.
  • As of October 2021, the basic fee for the prescription sending function is free for the first six months after installation.

[Looking Ahead]

DNP, as the general agent for LINE Flyers, provides services to pharmacies and drug stores nationwide, and aims to achieve sales of 300 million yen by fiscal year 2024 through the newly developed new functions and related services. Furthermore, DNP plans to expand the number of pharmacies and drug stores that can use the prescription sending function to 5,000 by fiscal year 2024.

* LINE Flyer, which launched in October 2019, has more than 16 million users (number of friends on the official LINE Flyer account) and is used by more than 40,000 retailers, including drugstores, supermarkets, and electronics retailers, as of October 2021.
