Materiality

DNP identifies materiality to realize the “better future” it envisions.

DNP's Vision for a Better Future

Based on the Corporate Philosophy, the DNP Group aims to realize “a sustainable, better society and well-being lives" as a sustainable management concept and is taking the initiative in conducting business activities to create a “better future.”

To realize the four interrelated societies that it aims for as a “better future,” in March 2024 DNP identified materiality as important for it to continuously grow together with society by specifying what DNP should do and what value it will create with an eye toward 2030-35.

The DNP Group continuously takes a long-term view and will conduct business activities to create a “better future” based on the Corporate Philosophy. DNP has clarified the four societies that only DNP can realize and the key issues (materiality) for priority resolution and will continuously take on the challenge of creating new value that connects people and society.

This chart presents the DNP Group's philosophy and materiality in a pyramid structure. The top tier shows the Corporate Philosophy: “The DNP Group connects individuals and society and provides new value.” The second tier outlines our approach to sustainable management: “We aim to realize a sustainable society and fulfilling lifestyles,” and introduces the “four societies” that represent the “better future” DNP envisions. The third tier identifies four “materialities” as priority issues to address in order to achieve these four societies. The fourth tier sets out our basic management policy: “The DNP Group aims for an ROE of 10% or more and seeks to achieve a PBR of over 1.0x at an early stage,” and details the medium-term management plan, which integrates business, financial, and non-financial strategies.

Process for Identifying Materiality

We comprehensively grasp social issues and mega-trends related to the environment, society, and economy, and identify and evaluate medium- to long-term risks (variables) in DNP's business activities, as well as identify and prioritize social issues that are highly important for DNP and society stakeholders.

Value creation

Aligned with the business strategy of the Medium-term Management Plan, DNP is developing a business portfolio that can leverage its strengths over the medium to long term. In addition, we are proactively investing in areas with expected market growth where our strengths can be applied, aiming to expand business domains and enhance performance.

This chart summarizes the social and economic value created through the DNP Group’s business activities by its six business areas—Information Security, Photo Imaging, Mobility, Industrial High-Performance Materials, Digital Interfaces, and Semiconductors. It shows how each area relates to the four societies and materialities, and the value it delivers—social value such as contributing to a safe and secure society, creating new experiences, and reducing environmental impact, as well as economic value such as strengthening global competitiveness and expanding markets.
