DNP Only Printer Included in All Three ESG Indexes from World's Largest Pension Fund

GPIF commences ESG-driven investments

Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) is proud to be the only printing company to be included in a new series of environmentally-driven investment indexes established by the Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF). DNP has been included as a constituent of all three categories, otherwise referred to as the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Criteria , and the largest pension fund in the world will now commence investment in companies, such as DNP, which recognize and emphasize the importance of ESG values in their normal operations.
As of July 2017, some 66 Japanese companies have been included in all three ESG categories, with DNP as the only printing company.

[GPIF and the 3 ESG Indexes]

Great expectations exist for enhancements in risk-adjusted returns from long term investments in companies that conduct business with a concern for ESG. In this latest development, GPIF has selected two integrated indexes covering all ESG factors and one thematic index focusing on gender diversity. The integrated indexes are the FTSE Blossom Japan Index and the MSCI Japan ESG Select Leaders Index, while the thematic index is the MSCI Japan Empowering Women Index(WIN).
FTSE Blossom Japan Index is an ESG integrated equity index operated by FTSE Russell, a 100% subsidiary of the London Stock exchange Group.
MSCI Japan Empowering Women Index(WIN)and the MSCI Japan ESG Select Leaders Index are ESG research-driven indexes created by MSCI of the USA. Both indexes are listed on the New York Stock Exchange, and are referenced by in excess of 1,000 companies around the world. The former is composed of a selection of 251 companies, while the latter - a multifaceted gender diversity score - is based on a selection of 212 companies.

[DNP, a Constituent of the World’s Major SRI Indexes]

In Addition to the GPIF ESG indexes, DNP has also been selected for inclusion in several Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) indexes that evaluate corporate CSR efforts in addition to financial analyses.
The Company has been included as a constituent of the FTSE4Good Global Index for 17 consecutive years, and has also been selected for inclusion in the DJSI Asia Pacific (Switzerland), the MSCI SRI Indexes (US), ETHIBEL Investment Register (Belgium), and the US, Morningstar Socially Responsible Investment Index in Japan. The Company has been recognized for providing new values designed to resolve social challenges, and developing a strong reputation both in Japan and overseas for operating a business that paves the way for sustainable development.

[DNP CSR Activities]

DNP views the fulfilment of CSR requirements as its corporate responsibility, and will endeavor to clarify and pursue the following three activities; 1, value creation that contributes to social development, 2, to act with honesty and integrity in the fair and impartial operation of that value creation process, and 3, the maintenance of high level transparency in fulfilling accountability requirements to society.
DNP has positioned Knowledge and Communication, Food and Healthcare, Lifestyle and Mobility, and the Environment and Energy as business growth areas, and leverages strengths in Printing and Information (P&I) to create new values.
In the area of the Environment and Energy the Company is promoting the development of a variety of goods and services targeting the realization of a society capable of achieving both economic growth and the conservation of the global environment. One example is DNP Lighting Film that takes in light from a window and effectively reflects and disperses it to areas such as the ceiling in order to brighten the entire room. In addition to efforts designed to expand sales of lithium ion battery pouches, where DNP maintains a significant market share, the Company is also focused on the development of environmentally-friendly goods and services that lead to resource and energy saving, along with bio-diversity conservation.
Looking ahead, DNP aims to be a company that enjoys the unflagging trust of all its stakeholders, and will also make a contribution to corporate growth by resolving social challenges, and the development of a sustainable society.
