Pollution prevention
Basic Approach
DNP ensures compliance with the law through the regular publication of "Eco Reports" detailing trends in environmental regulations and through "Eco Audits." Furthermore, it strives to adhere to its own stricter standards (air, wastewater, odor, noise, and vibration) and self-management guidelines, which exceed legal regulations.
Indicators/Goals
Minimizing the impact of our business activities on the local environment is a crucial responsibility, and we are steadily promoting environmental conservation activities. In particular, for important items regulated by environmental laws and regulations, such as air, wastewater, odor, noise, and vibration, we have set a self-management value of "70% or less of the regulatory standard" and are continuously monitoring and improving these areas. As a result, we were able to maintain a high achievement rate for each item in fiscal year 2024.
| 2030 Targets | FY2024 Results | |
|---|---|---|
| Air (maximum concentration of air emission control items) | Maintaining at 70% or less of regulatory standards | Target achievement rate: 100% |
| Wastewater (maximum concentration of wastewater regulation items) | Target achievement rate: 99.7% | |
| Odor (maximum odor at the property boundary) | Target achievement rate: 98.5% | |
| Noise (maximum noise level at the property boundary) | Target achievement rate: 99.4% | |
| Vibration (maximum vibration level at the site boundary) | Target achievement rate: 100% | |
Attempt
Reduction of Water Pollutants
We manage wastewater from our production processes and cafeterias by using wastewater treatment equipment and septic tanks to detoxify it and reduce its pollution load, ensuring that it does not exceed the standards set by law.
In addition, we conduct regular inspections and maintenance of wastewater treatment equipment, and replace filtration filters and adsorbents.
We are continuously working to improve wastewater by implementing measures such as installing grease traps to prevent oil spills from the kitchen used in the cafeteria, and providing education on proper detergent use to protect water quality.
Reduction of air pollutants
Air pollutants include hazardous air pollutants and ozone-depleting substances defined by the Air Pollution Control Act, such as SOx (sulfur oxides), NOx (nitrogen oxides), and VOCs (volatile organic compounds). These substances affect health and the global environment by causing photochemical smog and ozone depletion. DNP is working to understand and reduce these emissions.
Reduction of VOC air emissions
The printing process uses inks, solvents, adhesives, and cleaning agents that contain VOCs such as toluene. Therefore, in addition to complying with emission concentration regulations under the Air Pollution Control Act, we are also working to reduce the total amount of emissions, including switching to alternative products with less environmental impact and installing VOC treatment and recovery equipment.
Domestic VOC emissions for fiscal year 2024: 3,983 [tons]
Measures against soil and groundwater contamination
We conduct soil contamination surveys based on our self-management guidelines. If contamination is found, we are required to report it to the governor of the relevant prefecture, receive guidance, and take appropriate measures such as remediation.
In fiscal year 2024, we will continue water purification treatment at one site, and from the perspective of preventing soil contamination, we will continue inspections of tanks, waste storage areas, and storage areas for discarded PCB equipment.
Storage of hazardous substances (PCBs)
Regarding PCB equipment currently stored or in use, we have planned to dispose of all affected equipment by the disposal deadline of the end of March 2027, and we are carrying out the disposal in stages.
